Here, we were asked to design a contemporary solution so that a large two bedroom top floor flat in Belsize Park could access the roof over its back extension so as to create a south facing roof terrace. The flat was split level with the back extension containing a bathroom and a kitchen dining room a full storey below the main living and bedroom areas. The configuration of the stairs was such that a new bridge was needed to allow the required access.

However to keep the new doorway within the main house volume the tall ceiling to the bathroom needed to be lowered, steps were then provided up to the main terrace area over the kitchen dining room below. At the change in levels we designed a glazed rooflight to allow additional light into the kitchen. The existing bathroom was also re-modelled to allow a new shower over a larger bath. The project was completed July 2002.
